Character Design

Instructions

Figure2.1

Task 1

We were tasked to create an original character based in the world of an RPG game - Genshin Impact. A weekly tracker is also provided to aid in our progress.

I started with world-building to solidify the base of my character. To do that, I searched up many Genshin characters' outfit and tried to pick some elements into my design.

For the character turnaround, I managed to find a Genshin body type template and decided to use it for my character turnaround.

When I was working on the splash art, I did some small design changes on her, so I needed to remake the character turnaround which took more time that I thought.

Task 2

After creating a base for my character. I need to create props and further develop my character. For the constellation, I decided to make a panther with a shield as Hamisari's name stands for "Swift Protector". I simplified the shield into a diamond-like shape and added a silhouette of the panter together. Then, I find different references for each symbol.

For the expressions, I did a series of them and submitted for feedback. Ms Anis adviced me that most of the expressions needed more exaggeration, so I took her advice and made some changes.

For the alternative outfit, I thought of several variations but did not manage to finalize it due to time management issues.

For the colour variation, I did some colour variations and asked my friends and Ms Anis for feedback. The first one was picked the most so I went with the first option.

For the weapon design, I did sketches on my book and then finalize it digitally.

Task 3

For our final task, we were tasked to create a splash art of our OC. I started off with her attack poses, then to her splash art pose which I already planned.

On to the last section, the splash art! I took the pose from task1 and made some small changes to the action and designs.

After submitting it for feedback, Ms Anis suggested that I shift the character's leg to the suggested location as it looks better and more anatomically correct.

After playing with some filters, I finalized the sketch to use it as reference for my final rendered splash art.

I showed Ms Anis my final progress of my rendered splash art before submitting into the compilation.

Last but not least, I found a template of the background when you wished for a character and added my splash art into it.

Reflection

Having to do a original character of your favourite video game is such an experience and I really enjoyed it if I ignored the times I procrastinated and finish it last minute. I wish I could refine the splash art further and try to mimic Genshin's artstyle.
