Task
We were tasked to pick a game and change it's art direction. For my group,
we decided on Muse Dash. It is a rhythm game developed by PeroPeroGames.
known for its striking visuals, fast-paced gameplay and energetic music. We
decided to turn it into a steampunk-based genre while maintaining its iconic
stylized hyperpop style.
The lecturer gave us the freedom to work with whoever we wanted, so (of course) I teamed up with my close buddies. Me and Benjamin were in charge in illustrations, Edwin was in charge of the
UI of the game, and lastly Joan was in charge with all the animations.
We started off strong with our concepts, assigning our tasks and executing
it efficiently. Me and Ben came up with multiple sketches of the characters,
that includes: Rin, Marijia, Buro, Buro's pet - Ola, and the battle boss for
the stage; Joan came up with ideas for creating the map while waiting for me
and ben's characters to animate them; Edwin brought many creative ideas in
designing the UI and ways to create a "steampunk-ish" feel to the game.
Lastly, we pitched our ideas to our lecturer and we returned with positive
feedback.

For our checkpoint presentations, we just proceed with our designs and
colorized them. At that time, me and Ben started creating character
breakdowns for Joan to animate their limbs whereas Edwin proceeded to
refine his work.

The presentation slides below is our 14 weeks of progress cramped into this presentation slides. The challenges I faced throughout this project is maintaining the consistency of the artstyle, this is my first time to try out the hyperpop style, I've looked up many hyperpop masterpieces created by illustrators and cross-referenced them to Muse Dash's stylized characters.
Overall, this was a fun experience to work together with my close friends and create something that we are all proud off.
