Exploration

Task 2(a): Key Artwork

Started off with finding some inspiration in Pinterest. I wanted it to look really digitalized because I have an interest of the digital world.

Figure2.1, Visual research, 5 Oct 2022

I will be using my initials for the design. These are my attempts in creating some sketches. Most of them had the "digital" theme whereas the second one was inspired by the stamps that the Chinese used to stamp their signatures in the past, I felt like exploring other themes related to myself.

These are the sketches made after some feedback. The 5th sketch above was chosen and Mr.Vinod told me to refine and improve it, and more sketches are required.

Initial design of the Key Artwork. I used green to create contrast with the mock-ups I found online.
Figure2.4, Initial sketch, 14 Oct 2022

My attempt to add my design onto a mock-up. This is my first time using a mock-up but thanks to the directions the mock-up artists gave, it is easy to navigate and insert the design.

Figure2.5, Exploration, 14 Oct 2022

When I looked at the design again, it looked really simple quite simple and boring. So, I looked up for more digital-themed fonts and stumble across some fonts with a glitch effect. This inspired me to add the glitch effect to my design and in my opinion, it looked more appealing.

Task 2(b): Collateral

Animation

I tried the frame-by-frame animation learnt from last semester's Typography class. I combined both my initial and last idea into the final animation

This is the first initial animation that I was going to go along with it, but it might look too simple, therefore I added the glitched effect and the "dark version" of the text to make it more appealing.

Mock up

I made some mock-ups and selected 3 of them for my final.

For the layout, I wanted to make a mascot carrying a gift box, which then exploded and the merchandise comes out.

The colour i chose above was to bright, hence it did not show contrast when adding colours to the mascot and other details. Therefore, I toned it darker and it looks much better.

Before posting everything on Instagram, I realized the GIF has to be converted into a MP4 to post. So, I used Premiere Pro to convert and also change the speed of the animation.

Feedback

Week 8: General Feedback: Do not use elements that does not relate to the key artwork. Week 7: General Feedback: Key artwork needs to have more fonts than forms. Specific Feedback: Go for 1st and 2nd sketch, remove the full stop. Week 6: Specific Feedback: Can proceed with 5th sketch, finalize it
