Task 1
Lecture
Axial System - Elements were aligned to the left or right of a
singular axis.
Radial System - Elements were aligned from a point of
focus.
Dilatational System - Elements were expanded from a central
point in a circular fashion.
Random System - Elements were not bound to any specific
pattern or relationship
Grid System - Elements were aligned to a system of vertical
and horizontal divisions.
Transitional System - Elements were aligned into an informal
system of layered banding.
Modular System - Non-objective elements were constructed as a
standardized unit.
Bilateral System - Elements were aligned symmetrically on a
single axis.

Task
Exercise 1 (Typographic Systems)
We were tasked to create a poster and add the contents stated in the MIB. The choices are highlighted in blue.
Figure2.1, Contents for the poster
Sketches were made before creating them in InDesign. For the sketches, some systems had only 1 sketch as I procrastinated.

As I was searching references for my radial system, I stumbled upon this image. Therefore, I'd like to implement this pattern in some of my final submissions as it looks cool.

Type and Play: Part 1
We were tasked to find letters from a random picture to proceed into
making a new font.
Figure 5.1, Image chosen (21 Sep 2022)
Then, I started finding letters from the image above. After that, an
existing font is required as a base to refine it into the letters I
extracted. For this, I used Futura Std Bold Condensed as it looks workable
with my extracted fonts.
For my first attempt, the font looks too random and

Now, onto finding a suitable image for my font. At first, I found an image of some leaves that links to the image I used to extract the fonts. However, it looks too vibrant and doesn't really fit my font, therefore it is scrapped.

Final Result for Type and Play, Part 2: Type & Image
After several refinements, I have come to the final result and proceeded into creating a poster. I picked a Jungle from Chile as it fits my original image and the words that I used. Lastly, I duplicated the fonts, placed it behind, make it black and used Gaussian Blur as shadow to create a sense of depth.

Type and Play, Part 2: Type & Image (HONOR competition)
We were tasked to participate in a competition and create a poster regarding to the theme of "Renewal of Life . Return".
I start off by scavenging my phone for images and found a bunch of flowers taken in a garden.
Figure 8.1 Image chosen for entry (1 Oct 2022)
I tried extracting letters from the image to form the letters "P E A C E".

I realized that it does not have to be a photo. So, I decided to draw for my final result. The meaning behind this is as you look from the left to right, it feels like a life cycle...
Figure 8.4 Image drawn for the entry, (5 Oct 2022)
...the healthy sprout grows old towards the center, and the morning dew drops onto a new sapling created by the mother plant.
The water droplet felt really artificial but I do not have much time left to refine it, thus I left it that way.

Reflection
Experience - About the typographic system, I struggled a little as I wanted to create something extra, but did not know when to "break the rule" when creating a system, hence losing precious time. Thus, I got a big lecture from Mr.Vinod to set me back on track. :D
About the HONOR competition, with my "excellent" time management skills, I barely submitted my entry, but I actually enjoyed doing it because this is the only assignment that allows me to draw this semester. Really enjoyed this exercise/assignment.
Observation - Exercise 1 was refreshing as it felt like the Type Formatting exercise but with more variety and freedom to create your layout.
Exercise 2 was relaxing and you get to explore fonts and layouts. The font extraction process, in my opinion, is one of the most creative techniques I've seen and I appreciate it.
Finding - I have learned how there are more ways to make a typographic system more interesting and pleasing to look at thanks to Exercise.
Exercise 2 taught me how I could extract letters from literally anything to create exciting and interesting fonts.
