Task 1 - Exercise 2 - Harmony and Word and Image

Lecture

Harmony- Using different elements with similar properties such as colour, shape, composed in a way that gives out a sense of oneness

Unity- Repetitive usage of particular elements composed in a way that gives out a sense of oneness, thus creating a theme.

Symbol- A sign, shape or object that is used to represent something.

Word and Image- Using the right words in an image to enhance its meaning. Correct placement of words could create hierarchy and balance in a design.

Visual Research

I looked upon the definitions of harmony and "Word and Image" and found these images that piqued my interests.

Exploration

These are my sketches for Word and Image.

The first sketch is about a figure ( not sure to add a male or female yet) shedding tears. The text "tears" was formed into a shape of a raindrop to further enhance the description that the figure is crying.
Figure2.1

This sketch involves a ship drifted on shore in the sunset. I wanted to add a "ship" to further emphasis ship as the main subject.
Figure2.2

This sketch is about a girl in a fantasy world full of pink candy and sweets. Totally not my style, but I would like to take up a challenge.
Figure2.3

This sketch is involves a little deer in the middle of a forest. The light and mood of this piece would be darkish blue to set a gloomy night with minimum lighting hitting the deer, making it 80% a silhouette.

Figure3.4 Added text to image

I figured that "dusk" would fit the theme better, and I changed its font from "Comic Sans" into "Times New Roman".

Harmony

Made a second sketch on top of it the create clearer lines.

Added additional lighting that was created by the Sun to create a little more contrast.

Feedback

Word and Image: Good visualization
"Dusk" move right, closer to the ship
                             Don't use Comic Sans
                              Font use a darker colour

Harmony            : Line too harsh

Reflection

I feel like I did a good job on conveying the message of Harmony and "Word and Image" in a design. However, time is not my friend and I barely managed to hand this up on time, so I have to manage my time better.
